Oleksandr Usyk Doubts Anthony Joshua’s “Refurbished” Game

Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is dismissing the notion that Anthony Joshua’s partnership with trainer Ben Davison would make him a more formidable opponent in a potential trilogy match between the two. Usyk is skeptical of the idea that Davison has revamped Joshua’s game and restored him to his former glory, comparing it to smoke and mirrors.

Usyk highlights that Joshua’s recent opponents, such as Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, are not top-level boxers. Ngannou had only one boxing match under his belt when facing Joshua, while Wallin is not considered an elite fighter. Usyk points out the vast difference between facing these opponents and competing against a seasoned Olympic champion like himself.

The Illusion of Improvement

While Joshua’s fans may believe in his supposed improvements under Davison, Usyk argues that it is more of an illusion than reality. He suggests that Joshua has received cosmetic upgrades like new tires and a paint job, but fundamentally remains the same fighter. Usyk urges fans to see through the trickery and not be swayed by false perceptions of Joshua’s abilities.

When contemplating a potential third fight between Usyk and Joshua, Usyk predicts a similar outcome to their previous encounters. He envisions Joshua being outclassed and ultimately succumbing to Usyk’s superior boxing prowess. Usyk hopes to avoid any post-fight antics from Joshua, such as throwing his belts out of the ring, which occurred after their second bout.

Oleksandr Usyk maintains a critical stance towards Anthony Joshua’s supposed transformation under Ben Davison. He refutes the idea that Joshua has significantly improved his skills, cautioning fans not to be misled by surface-level changes. Usyk remains confident in his abilities and looks forward to potentially facing Joshua once again in the ring.
